TBI Brain Injury

A TBI is the shortened word form for traumatic brain injury. This is an injury to the brain from a traumatic event such as a strong blow to the head with an object, a fall from a great height, a gunshot, or possibly an injury in an automobile accident or a motorcycle accident involving the head. The brain is surrounded and protected by the skull and a TBI brain injury is any injury that has gotten past that protection to injure the brain. This is a very serious type of injury and a person suffering this type of injury should be treated at a hospital as soon as possible.

A TBI brain injury can cause a person to suffer certain disabilities that may be temporary or permanent depending on how serious the injury and what part of the brain is affected. A person may be unconscious and may even enter a coma after such an injury, in which case they will probably have a long recovery period. A brain injured person may have difficulty with speech, thought processes, memory and even hearing or sight. They may have some form of paralysis especially if their spinal cord was involved with the injury. The person suffering a traumatic brain injury will probably spend some time in the hospital initially and depending on their progress they may have to stay in a rehabilitation center where they will work with a team of specialists to gain as much of their normal function back as is possible. The treatment for this type of injury is expensive and not all types of medical insurance cover it.

If you or a family member has suffered a TBI brain injury, you may be due some compensation for your injury if your injury was due to the negligence or intent of another person or corporation. People are shocked and unsure when a catastrophic injury like this occurs and they are especially concerned about how much of the ability to function "normally" their loved one might lose.
